Julie Martinez works as a Tenant Advocate on the HOME Line’s tenant hotline. She previously worked as a VISTA at HOME Line in the Organizing and Advocacy Program from 2006-2007. As an Organizer she worked with tenant associations to resolve building-wide issues, talked to tenants across the state about legislation affecting renters, and did outreach to partnering organizations promoting HOME Line’s services.
Julie joined the staff in 2007 as a Tenant Advocate on the hotline. Her primary duty is to assist renters with foreclosures and she has personally advised over 700 families on this topic. Julie has talked to more than 4,000 hotline tenants since 2007. In addition to working on the hotline, Julie has done presentations for Spanish-speaking families on general landlord-tenant law and provided information at various community events.
Julie has a BA in Public Policy with a concentration in Urban Policy from Mills College in Oakland, CA and is fluent in Spanish.
