Your Rights During a Condo Conversion
If your apartment is "going condo," you have the following rights:
- At minimum your landlord MUST honor your lease. That means that if you have a lease for a year and you abide by the terms of the lease, you get to continue renting your apartment until your lease ends.
- If your lease ends soon, or your have a month-to-month lease, you get a minimum of 120 days notice before you have to move out.
Example: If your lease ends in two months (60 days) you get to remain living in your apartment for a minimum of 120 days from when notice is given, even though your lease ends sooner than that.
- Special Note: If you are a senior (62 or older), handicapped or have a child living with you, you may also request an additional 60 days to remain in your apartment before you have to move out. This will give you a total of 180 days to remain in your apartment before you have to move
